The Sunday Night Singers Celebrate Wins at Prestigious International Choir Competition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PALMDALE, CA - July 24, 2025

Earlier this month, The Sunday Night Singers, the Antelope Valley’s premier choral ensemble, traveled with 28 singers to Aarhus, Denmark to compete in the European Choir Games & Grand Prix of Nations Aarhus 2025. Representing both the United States and the Antelope Valley, the ensemble delivered some of its strongest performances to date-and brought home major honors.

This trip marked the group’s first international tour since 2016. Their participation resulted in first place wins in two categories of the Open Competition: Musica Sacra with Accompaniment and Gospel, Spiritual, Music of Spirit and Faith. These top placements earned them an invitation to the prestigious Grand Prix of Nations, where they went on to receive second place in the Musica Sacra with Accompaniment.

The ensemble performed their award-winning sets in two of Aarhus’ most iconic venues: the Aarhus Musikhuset, the city’s main concert hall, and the historic Skt. Lukas Kirke (Lucas Church). Following one particularly emotional performance, the singers walked off stage to cheers and a standing ovation from an international audience.

“Walking off stage with this group was incredibly moving,” said Artistic Director Mike McCullough. “It was one of those moments where you just know you gave it your all, and it landed. The pride we felt as a group was undeniable.”

The European Choir Games is one of the most respected international choral events in the world, drawing over 130 choirs from over 30 countries. Ensembles compete, collaborate, and celebrate the power of music across borders.

“We are proud to have represented the Antelope Valley and to have presented choral music on an international stage,” said General Manager Jose Meza. “This trip was a dream for our singers, and it’s a moment our community should be proud of.”

The ensemble’s international appearance was made possible through months of preparation and the support of the SNS Choirs community. Alongside competition performances, the singers also connected with choirs from other countries, explored the city of Aarhus, and took part in festival activities that deepened their experience abroad.

Now back home, The Sunday Night Singers are looking ahead to a new season filled with local performances, community partnerships, and a celebration of their 20th anniversary in 2025.
